Mike Eyster is the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. He served as the UO Housing Director from 1991 – 2008 and was Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs from 2001 until 2010. Mike served as Interim Vice President for Student Affairs from 2005 – 2007 and Acting Vice President for Student Affairs until 2008. Mike served as Director of the University Health Center from 2008 – 2010. He holds a master’s degree in educational psychology and measurement and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dr. Paul Shang became Assistant Vice President and Dean of Students in April 2009. He has extensive experience in student affairs primarily in the areas of serving students of color, student satisfaction and retention, academic advising, first year seminars, student conduct, and orientation. Paul holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Florida State University as well as a bachelor’s degree in Government and Philosophy. He has received national recognition for his work and is a past president of ACPA, College Student Educators International.

Kathie Stanley directs the Vice President’s administrative staff, and provides a broad range of executive support to the vice president in the areas of budget, personnel, operations, and information management. She began her career at the UO as Assistant to the Director of Admissions in 1986, and has worked for the Vice President’s office since 2002. Kathie has a B.S. in Journalism/Public Relations from the UO.

Deb Chereck has served as Director of the UO Career Center since 2004. She previously served as the Director of Business Career Services at the UO Lundquist College of Business with primary attention to the MBA population (1997-2004) and Associate Director of the UO Career Center (1980-96). Deb has also served as the President of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (2005-08). She holds a Educational Specialist degree in Counseling and a M.Ed. degree in Student Personnel Administration from Kent State University in Ohio and a B.A. from Elmira College in New York.

John Duncan has served as the Director of the Holden Leadership Center since its inception in 2005. In the fall of 2008, John also became the Special Assistant to the Vice President of Student Affairs for Fundraising and Development. Prior to coming to the UO, John worked in Student Affairs at the University of Michigan. He received a B.S. in History from Oregon State University and a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University. He is a native of Oregon and enjoys hiking, backpacking, skiing, reading, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Michael Griffel became the Director of University Housing in August, 2010. Michael comes to the UO from Bowling Green State University, where, as Director of Residence Life, he has served as the senior housing officer since 2007. Prior to his work at Bowling Green, Michael was Director of University Residences at the University of Idaho from 1998‐2007 and Director of Residence Life and Housing at Robert Morris University, from 1993 to 1998. He currently serves as Program Committee Chair of the Association of College and University Housing Officer’s‐International (ACUHO‐I). Michael, has a strong academic, research, and practical background in student development and a solid understanding of the many issues facing today’s students and their families.

Dr. Kerr first joined the Counseling and Testing Center (UCTC) staff in 2001 as the Director of Training. She was appointed as the UCTC Director in 2008. Prior to her employment at the University of Oregon, Dr. Kerr served as staff psychologist at Washington State University Counseling Services. Dr. Kerr earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology at Washington State University, a master’s degree in College Student Personnel at Western Illinois University, and a bachelors degree in Communication/Business at Greenville College. She holds a license in Oregon to practice psychology. She is a member of the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors and the Northwest Counseling Center Directors.

Dana Mills became the Director of the University Health Center in July, 2010. Dana comes to the UO from Marquette University, where he served as the Director of Health Services. He has worked in college health since 1973 and he currently serves on the executive board of the American College Health Association (ACHA) and is a founding member of the Lookout Mountain Group, an association of health care professionals formed to ensure that health care for college students is a part of the national health care reform effort. Dana has also worked as an independent consultant conducting comprehensive reviews of student health centers. Dana has an MPH (Health Administration/Environmental Health) from the University of Michigan and a Bachelors Degree from Iowa State University.

Dennis Munroe has served as Director of Physical Education and Recreation since 2000. He first came to UO in 1988 to serve as Aquatics Director, then spent eight years at Oregon State University in campus recreation administration before returning to UO. Previously, Dennis served at several institutions as a physical educator and recreation administrator (1973-1988). He holds a master’s degree in Education from University of Dayton.

Wendy Polhemus joined the SA team in June, 2010 as the Interim Director of the Erb Memorial Union. Wendy is a long time resident of Eugene and earned her BS in Political Science and an MBA from the UO. She has spent most of her civilian career in supervision and project management within the local manufacturing sector. She also has had a full career in the Army. In May, 2010 she completed a tour which included ten months as the Chief of Economics/Capacity Development for MultiNational Corps – Iraq in Baghdad.

Son L. Hughes joined the Student Affairs Team in November 2010 as the Director of Student Affairs Financial Services. A University of Oregon alumni, Son came to the Student Affairs Division as a Financial Management Analyst from Eugene School District 4J, prior to that, she was an Accountant at Lane Community College and Non-Profit Organizations. Son earned her Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at Northwest Christian University, and her B.S. degree in Accounting at the University of Oregon.

Marci Torres is the first Director of the UO Healthy Campus Initiative. She started in February 2011. Prior to arriving at UO Marci was the Associate Director of Campus Wellness at the University of South Carolina. Prior to that Marci was a personal fitness instructor and served as the Health Promotion Coordinator for the U.S. Army in Korea, and as a military systems analyst in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. She is a certified Personal Trainer and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University and Master of Public Health degree from George Washington University.

Janice Langis has served as the Executive Assistant to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs since January 2010. Janice began her career at the UO as Executive Assistant to the Director of University Housing in 1997. She continued her role as Executive Assistant to the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs from 2005-2007. Janice worked as the Assistant to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Director of the University Health Center from 2008-2010. Prior to joining the university, Janice was the Executive Assistant and Office Manager to the Director of Residence Life at the University of Southern Maine from 1994-1997.

Billy Ray joined the Student Affairs Information Technology department in October 2010. He is responsible for maintaining and designing custom applications. Billy has a B.S. in Information Systems and a B.S. in General Management from Portland State University. Prior to joining Student Affairs, he served as the lead Web Developer/DBA for Pacific Research Associates in Portland. Billy moved to Eugene in 2005 when his wife began Law School at the UO.

Debbie Turetzky has served as executive assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs since October 2007. She joined the University of Oregon in January 2006, providing administrative support at the Center on Teaching and Learning. Prior to joining the university, she provided executive level administrative and project support to the founders of a start-up management consulting firm committed to creating sustainable breakthrough performance in San Francisco, California and Austin, Texas. Debbie is thrilled to be back on the west coast and to call Eugene home.
