The Career Center contributes to the University’s mission by helping students establish fulfilling careers, contribute to society, and adapt to the increasing complexity of life and work in the 21st century. The Career Center is the primary campus resource for students and alumni seeking career direction and full- and part-time employment. It provides comprehensive services and information resources for career decisions and job searches, helps students identify their work-related strengths and interests, prepares students for finding suitable employment, and fosters relationships with the employer community.

counseling and testing center

The Counseling Center provides psychological services and programs for currently enrolled students through initial assessment, brief therapy, crisis intervention, skill-development and therapy groups, educational outreach programs, referral to community resources, and consultation to faculty/staff, students, and parents. The Testing Center provides computer-based testing and national testing (e.g., GRE, LSAT, MCAT), placement testing, and accommodated testing for students with disabilities. Testing Center staff also collaborates with staff and faculty regarding accommodated testing and placement testing.

The EMU provides a combination of programs, services and facilities that enrich the educational, cultural and recreational opportunities in the university community and help make students’ extracurricular activities an integral part of their education. The building provides group-meeting rooms, a variety of food service options (everything from fresh-baked breads and homemade soups, to pizza, pasta, vegan cuisine, authentic ethnic foods, sandwiches and salads…and, of course, coffee), lounges, a pool hall and arcade, and a staff of program consultants to help groups and individuals plan programs. The student government and more than 150 diverse student groups call the EMU home.

holden center

The Holden Center exists to help students get involved in unique learning opportunities at the University of Oregon. It supports experiences that travel beyond the traditional academic setting, connecting students to both local and global communities all while assisting individuals in exploring and enhancing their leadership knowledge and style. Through the Holden Center, students can get involved with groups such as Fraternity and Sorority Life, volunteer through the Duck Corps, or take advantage of a broad range of workshops, institutes and conference that are designed to help students be successful. The Holden Center also offers courses for academic credit and workshops that explore the fundamentals of leadership, mentorship, community involvement and change.

The Office of the Dean of Students, formerly Student Life, plays a vital role in enriching and maintaining a positive campus community and serves as a point of contact within the University for students, staff, faculty and student’s family members in times of crisis. The DOS office provides support for a variety of student concerns, including illness, death in the family, academic difficulty, and other personal emergencies. Specific programs include: ASUO Women’s Center, Commencement, Conflict Resolution Services; Diversity Education and Support; Family Programs/UO Parents Association; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Education Support; Honors & Awards, Sexual Assault Prevention/Education; Student Conduct and Community Standards; and Substance Abuse Prevention/Education.

physical education and recreation

Physical Education and Recreation (PE & Rec) provides opportunities that enhance the quality of life for all students through a state-of-the-art recreation center, physical activity programs, and non-instructional recreation activities that focus on health and fitness, outdoor pursuits, aquatics, sports, structured intramurals and open recreation. Additionally, PE & Rec administers an elective credit Physical Education course curriculum. Course opportunities include aerobics, fitness, outdoor pursuits, aquatics, individual activities, racquet sports, team sports, running, weight training, mind-body, and martial arts.

The primary mission of the University Health Center is to enhance the educational process by minimizing health-related barriers to personal development and learning, and by providing a variety of medical and health care services for currently enrolled UO students who have paid student fees. These services are provided by a highly qualified staff that includes physicians, a dentist, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, laboratory and x-ray technicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, pharmacists, dental hygienists, health educators, and support employees.

The role of University Housing is to support the academic mission of the University through the provision of residence hall and family student housing and related services. University Housing operates two types of student housing: residence hall housing, and family student housing intended primarily for student families and non-traditional students. University Housing is also responsible for dining services, campus-wide catering, and other food operations, camp and conference housing, as well as managing the budgets and facilities of these operations, and related support services.
